We are always working hard at introducing any new safety products which come available to us. We have recently introduced a vertical system that moves via a hand drawn wand method but contains inbuilt cords so that consumers can still tilt the blades. Along with this new system we also provide all our roller blinds with hold down clips when chain operated, the option of timber cords which can be broken up singly, a chain operated system for romans and shutters, and drift panels which have no cords at all.

Also remember to ask one of our interior décor consultants on our range of fully automated motor systems. With no cords being used, these can be fitted to many of our products, allowing a child safe alternative and a modern and convenient solution.

Steps to reduce the risk...

Make sure that your child's cot, bed, highchair or playpen are not placed near a window where he or she can reach the curtain or blind cord. Your child may become entangled in the cord while sleeping or playing.

Young children love to climb. Do not put sofas, chairs, tables, shelves or bookcases near windows with blinds or curtains which have cords.

Keep cords as short as possible or tie them high out of reach.

If you have vertical blinds then install a cord tensioning device, these can be bought from a curtain or hardware shop and screwed to the wall. This keeps the cord tight against the frame of the window so that there is no free loop which a child could get tangled in.

Wrap a long cord around a cleat attached to the wall near the top of the curtain or blind.

At Dollar Curtains and Blinds we pride ourselves on always being at the forefront of child safety. Most people don’t give a second thought to the cords used to open and close curtains and blinds and for this reason we always provide warning labels where necessary.
